Oliver Bentleys Historic Dog Walk Tour
Embark on a tour of tales (and tails) through Savannah's Historic District and learn all about the cityís amazing history. Youíll explore seven of Savannahís 22 iconic squares, beginning with Oglethorpe Square. These beautiful green spaces punctuate the downtown area with azaleas in all colors, live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, and centuries of fascinating history and charm.
While the tour is designed for people visiting Savannah with their dogs, locals are always welcome, as well as anyone who left their four-legged friend at home and is just craving some canine company. Thatís right, you donít have to have to bring Rufus on the tour, but be prepared to explain yourself when you come home smelling like some other dog!
Weíll walk you and your pack down historic Bull Street, sharing and regaling your pack with the history behind the monuments. Youíll sniff around some of the cityís most well-known historic landmarks. Bring your camera (or smartphone) because there will be endless Fido photo opportunities. Go ahead and snap some selfies with your furry friend ó and donít forget to tag us!
Along the way, your knowledgeable tour guide will point out the many dog-friendly establishments you might want to visit during your stay in Savannah. Donít worry, you wonít have to remember them all. Weíll give you a map to help you plan the rest of your trip with your canine companions.
The tour is just over 1 mile in length and lasts anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the pace set by the dogs. Hey, they need time to properly sniff around! You and your pack will get a leisurely walk while learning about the city, and your dog will be content taking a nap while you slip out for a bite to eat or some shopping later on.
As an added bonus, every dog on the tour receives a complimentary bag of our Oliver Bentleys original recipe Ollie B. Biscuits and Bites, because doesnít your pack deserve a treat after being such good dogs!? As we say at Oliver Bentleys, only the best for those who love us the most.
Dress for the weather. Although the cityís green spaces have plenty of shade, summer is hot, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s. Spring and fall typically reach the upper 70s, while winter highs might be in the 50s. Check the forecast before stepping out to make sure youíre dressed appropriately. Please note our afternoon tour is not offered June through September due to high temperatures.
Wear comfortable shoes. As the tour name suggests, you will be walking. While 1 mile doesnít seem that far, keep in mind you might encounter uneven terrain such as brick or cobblestone walkways, and you will be on your feet anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes.
Bring a water bottle (for yourself and your dog). Frequent water breaks will make you and your bestie much more comfortable during the tour. Water is essential during summer tour season.
Leash your dog. The City of Savannah 's Leash Law requires that all pets be leashed when visiting city parks, squares, business, and residential areas. Keep Spot safe!
Scoop your poop. The City of Savannah requires dog owners to clean up after their pets. There are plenty of trash bins located throughout the city, so you wonít have to carry it the whole time.
Tours are by reservation only and start from the Oliver Bentleys store at 110 East York Street.

We were only in Savannah for a few days, so we needed to pick a GREAT tour to learn about the city. Glad I went with this one! Not only was it dog friendly, so my Blue Heeler, Blue, was more than welcome...but Eric was so informative! My two daughters (ages 7 and 12) even learned some stuff! My youngest was pointing out fish water spouts the day after and telling us what they were for! :) Thatís impressive when you can get my 7 year oldís attention with a history tour! I definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn about this beautiful city...especially if your dog is in tow! ó Leyla
We had so much fun bringing our German Shepherd mixes on this tour. Learned a whole lot of history and some cool places to take the dogs. Absolutely loved it! We got a free bag of treats at the end. Highly recommend it! ó Sabrina
Fun for everyone
Savannah is so rich with history, that a tour is highly recommended. This tour was perfect for us, just traveling through with 2 kids and a dog. Kids were really engaged in all the stories, and collectively we all learned a lot. I also really enjoyed walking vs riding, really felt we could look around and take in the sights. ó Beth
So much fun!
I took this tour with my 9 y/o greyhound after moving to Savannah as a way to get acquainted with the historic district. We had the best time! Our human guide was super knowledgeable, and my dog got along great with her canine "assistant." A really wonderful, entertaining, and informative experience. Highly recommend! ó Abigail
